러시아 과학자들이 100m 깊이의 땅속에서 1,000년 전 것으로 추정되는 구리선의 흔적을 발견하고는 자신들의 조상이 1,000년 전에 이미 전화망을 갖췄다는 결론을 내렸다.
After digging to a depth of 100m, Russian scientists found traces of copper wiring dating back 1,000 years, and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network one thousand years ago.

 

 

이에 질 수 없던 미국 과학자들은 200m를 파내려간 끝에 2,000년 된 광섬유 흔적을 발견했다.
So as not to be outdone, American scientists dug 200m, and found traces of 2,000 year old optical fibers.

 

 

그들은 자신들의 조상이 러시아인들보다 1,000년이나 앞서 첨단 디지털 전화를 사용했을 거라고 결론지었다.
They concluded that their ancestors already had advanced high-tech digital telephone 1,000 years earlier than the Russians.

 

 

한주 뒤 남극의 언론에는 다음과 같은 기사가 실렸다.
One week later, the Antartian press reported the following.

 

"남극 과학자들은 500m 아래 땅속에서 아무것도 발견하지 못했다. 이들은 5,000년 전에 조상들이 이미 휴대폰을 사용했다는 결론을 내렸다."
"After digging as deep as 500m, Antartian scientists have found absolutely nothing. They have concluded that 5,000 years ago, their ancestors were already using mobile phones."
